On October 23, 1922, 100 years ago, the legendary machine gunner, the first Kazakh woman, was born, who was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union Manshuk Mametova - machine gunner of the 100th separate rifle brigade of the 3rd shock army of the Kalinin Front, senior sergeant of the guard, was born in 1922 in the village of Zhaskus, Orda district, Ural region of Kazakhstan. In 1942, she completed two courses at the Alma-Ata Medical Institute and volunteered for the front. She has been in the Red Army since 1942.In October 1943, in heavy battles for the liberation of the city of Nevel (Nevel offensive operation) during the defense of a dominant height, one of the machine-gun crew, being seriously wounded by a shrapnel in the head, destroyed 70 enemy soldiers and died a heroic death.She was buried in the city of Nevel.
The title of Hero of the Soviet Union Guard Senior Sergeant Mametova Manshuk Zhiengalievna was awarded posthumously by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 1, 1944.
